ABOUT

Charlie is an interdisciplinary artist based in South Wales, whose work explores themes of memory, ego dissolution, social erasure and spiritual liberation. Her practice is both site-responsive and contextual, with a pivotal focus on presence, psychophysical action, and process. In her performances, Charlie uses her body as a conduit to explore the threshold between opposing forces, resulting in a generative flow of energies that transmute through what she identifies as trans- actions. She is especially interested in transitional spaces, boundaries, and territories as a way of examining how oppressive socio-cultural forces shape society, identity and behaviour. Her process is alchemical, combining material and immaterial elements that reveal multiple pathways of transformation, unpredictable outcomes and potentiality.

Fostering a distinct body-led methodology of psycho-sensing and response inspired by Butoh, Charlie promotes a rich collaborative approach within her research praxis, emphasising the importance of shared experience, dialogue and exchange. She has performed and collaborated at festivals, galleries, public spaces with sound artists, dancers, cinematographers, and production teams, with the intention of facilitating creative growth, dynamic change and connection.
