Transitional Objects Workshop

Following the revisitation of The Institution at Chapter Arts Centre, Andre Stitt and I brought together a series of workshops for Fine Art Students in Swansea and Cardiff, funded by Arts Council Wales. The workshops used somatic movement, sound, score dynamics, and dialogue to explore memory through sensing, energy transference and collaborative performance. The contextual framework was centred around Winnicott’s theory of the transitional object, a teddy bear, or toy that children use to bridge the gap between self and mother. As these objects exist in a transitional space, they allow the exploration of one’s inner psychic world to become a part of reality through expanding creative potential, experiential knowing, and a sense of self.
